Monthly Meeting
The April meeting of the Western Reserve Fly Anglers will be held April 27th at 6:45 PM at Field High School cafeteria. Our speaker this month is Nelson Burnell. Nelson has been to the Amazon fishing for peacock bass. He has an amazing story to tell. The scenery is beautiful and the fishing is super. This is a meeting you will truly enjoy. Nelson will be presenting for the entire meeting. He will not only show us what the fishing is like but he will also show us how to tie the flies he uses for peacock bass. Hope to see you at the meeting and bring your friends.
Dues Reminder
March is when your Western Reserve Fly Anglers dues are due. If you haven’t paid yet, you can pay Dave at the meeting. If not, please send your check to:

Club Steelhead Outing
Though the wind put a chill in the air, the sun made up for it. It seems as though the push of fish has yet to reach Daniel's Park or Big Creek. Congratulations to Joe for landing four fish at Daniel's then landed a jack on Big Creek at Helen Hazen Wyman Park on the second leg of our journey.
Aside from the mishaps that Al and I endured, all in all it was a pleasant day to be on the water. Lance did not go with us to Helen Hazen Wyman and managed to hook three and land one steelhead on the Chagrin.
I am considering a weekday trip in two or three weeks to Neshannock Creek. I will give out the date/time after our return from West Virginia next week. This will also allow me some time to heal this bum shoulder I now have. The Tiger Balm is starting to work.....
Thanks for attending this outing and your support of the club. That is $30.00 I will give to George at the next meeting.
FFF Drawing
We are proud to announce a new way to support the FFF. Five Rivers Lodge in Dillon, MT has generously donated 17 -four day, five night trips for two people. All you have to do is donate $20 to the FFF and you'll receive a chance to win one of these trips. A trip to Cinco Rios Lodge in Chile will be drawn as a grand prize. Tickets are available through Joe Sudomir at the Meeting or you can purchase them online at the FFF Merchandise Site. The price is steep, but your chances are pretty good. There are only five or six clubs in the Ohio Council and the drawing will be by council. I don’t see ticket sales being any better with the other chapters than they are with our club. See Joe at the meeting for tickets.
Rockwell Springs Trout Fishing Outing
On Tuesday, May 12, club members are invited to go fishing at Rockwell Springs Trout Club in Castalia. This is a private club with great trout fishing. You can catch rainbows, browns, brooks, and tiger trout. The average size is a little over a pound but there are some larger trout (up to four pounds on the club side and much bigger on the wild side). The cost is $57 for some of the best trout fishing in Ohio. (The cost covers club fishing fee of $20 (the club raised the fishing fee by $5 and I didn’t know it), catch and release fee of $20, $12 for lunch and two non-alcoholic drinks, and the $5 donation to our club.) If you decide to keep some trout, you will be charged $4.00 per pound for your fish. We will be ready to sign people in at 8:00 AM and you will be able to fish until dark. Joe needs to know how many people are going by Monday, April 27.
President’s Minute
The steelhead are abundant in all the rivers. When the water is down, the fishing is great. Treat yourself and set aside the time to get out and catch a few steelhead.
Don’t forget the club outing to Rockwell Springs Trout Club. This has to be the best trout fishing (with the exception of steelhead in the rivers) in Ohio. Give yourself a present of a trout fishing outing on Tuesday, May 12.
The May meeting is the fishing meeting. Unless some one gives me a better suggestion, we will be again fishing at Lake Hodgson. If you have a better idea, share it with me.
Club Roster
I have had a request for a club roster. If you want to go fishing or have a question, you would have the members addresses and phone numbers. Since we have not had one available for members since I have been a member, I thought I would run it by every body. If you do not want to be included in the roster to be given to all members, please contact Joe. If I do not hear from you, I will assume you want to be included. The roster will be included with the May On The Fly.
Planning Ahead
April 27 Membership meeting Nelson Burnell will be talking about fishing for Peacock Bass in the Amazon.
May 12 Trout fishing at Rockwell Springs for members only.
May 18 Annual membership fishing outing at Lake Hodgson for members and guests.
Next Year’s Programs
` It is time to start thinking about next year’s programs for our club meetings. We need ideas for people and groups to contact for possible programs. I would like your help. If you know of a person or a group that would put on a program of interest for the club, please let Jerry or Joe know. If you have a favorite place to fish, a special fishing trip you took, or would like to share information about fishing for your favorite fish, please consider putting on a program for the club. We can help with projection equipment and set up.
FFF Enters National Anglers’ Legacy Partnership
FFF has entered an exciting national partnership with the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation (RBFF) – launching a national Anglers’ Legacy pledge drive. Anglers’ Legacy encourages avid anglers to share their passion for both fishing and our cherished aquatic resources, by taking the Anglers’ Legacy “Pledge” and becoming Anglers’ Legacy ambassadors.
Becoming an Anglers’ Legacy ambassador is very easy – it is free, and takes less than a minute. In “taking the pledge” – and becoming an Anglers’ Legacy ambassador -- we promise to introduce at least one new person to the sport of fishing each year:
http://www.takemefishing.org/community/anglers-legacy/take-the-pledge/promo/FEDFLY08
In this simple commitment to pass on and mentor someone new to fishing, we can do much for our sport, our home waters and conservation efforts as well as for FFF and our local clubs. We should all take time to pass on the legacy…after all, someone did that for us during our lives…It is time for us to share our sport with another person .
